Marc Jacobs’ show at the Armory on Lexington during the New York Fashion Week was a hit. When the name is Marc Jacobs the level of expectation is one step higher. The designer did justice to his reputation of being flamboyant and versatile in his creation. Abundance of layers and ruffles and a range of craftily designed accessories made Jacobs’ Spring 2010 collection a spectacular one.
The color palette varied from dark blue to grey; from lavender to olive green. There were sheer white patterned top paired with white stocking as well as interesting black and white patterned dress inspired by Japanese art.
Ruffles on the collar, sleeves and all over the gown caught the eyes. From long gowns to trimmed pencil skirts and polo to three-piece pantsuit it was totally a balanced exhibition. What was interesting was that his models took the runway in almost flat to completely flat shoes. The designer used layers and ruffles on the gowns, skirts and jackets in a way to give it a vintage flavor that was very much appreciated by the audience.
