Journey from Press Week to New York Fashion Week

Fashion to beauty and parties to cuisine all comes under one umbrella in the New York fashion week where the glam babes tries to look perfect and hot in their iconic status with its versatility and flaunts their designed costumes to exclusive accessories to stylish bags and expensive stiletto shoes. Between styling celebrities and their successful careers these fashion week plays an important role to flaunt themselves around such glamorous people.

The world’s first organized fashion week now known as the New York fashion week was then called the Press week showcased American designers for fashion journalist as they had previously neglected their novelty. This Press Week saw the colors of success and magazines like vogue previously filled with French designs also published American designs. American designers took the flight of success and there was no looking back from then on.

The New York fashion week not only showcases designer collection of apparels of Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein, Anna Sui and Donatella Versace but also gives us varied taste of shoes, trendy bags to embroidered silk purses and crochet purses and flaunts exclusive jewellery brands like Chopard, Graff, Buccellati, Piaget and so on. People got the taste of technology too in the 2009 fashion week. Mercedes – Benz fashion week is one of the most well known event held during the New York fashion week.

This year the event was showcased from 11th of February to 18th of February where Michael Kors projected his vision using furs, cashmere and ruggedly sexy boots and Sophia Kokosalaki, the new creative director for the Diesel Black Gold Autumn/Winter 2010-2011 collection brand presented her debut collection. Various other designers like Phillip Lim, Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, Oscar de la Renta showcased their own unique collections that add a glam look. This year the New York fashion week kicked off with a party celebrating Vanessa Paradis as the face of its Rouge Coco Lipstick .

The upcoming fashion week event will take place in September from 10th to 12th. In this way the New York Fashion week leaves a mark on the fashion industry with a big start on the ramp and ending with late night parties.

Though some people still believe in the proverb “leaders are born and not made” with leadership skills training programs, it is possible to develop certain leadership qualities. Studies reveal that leaders behave in a certain manner. So you can learn from certain qualities and behavioral traits of a leader and incorporate them in your life. The bottom line is to become a good leader one needs to be a good follower first.

Here is a brief list of the areas one needs to improve in order to develop leadership skills.

Honesty: Leaders are respected for their honesty and ethics. Honesty is the key to earn trust and faith of others. This is one small step you can take in your life. Honesty is not just about speaking the truth, it also means taking responsibility for your own actions especially when the results are not favorable.

Courage: Leaders have the courage to take risk, to break the existing set up and give new directions to his followers in order to achieve a goal. Following the established rules without innovative thinking shows no drive or determination. To become a leader you need to have the courage of crossing barriers and exploring what is beyond. You can practice this by speaking up against what you think is wrong instead of just being a silent watcher.

Passion: Leaders have enthusiasm for doing something new. A leader has passion for his work. You can develop that passion for work by being enthusiastic about the tasks assigned to you.

Commitment: Commitment is a common trait of leaders. You can achieve this quality by practicing commitment to your work, to your team mates as well as family and friends in life. Commitment means hard work and discipline for achieving goals.

Focus: Leaders have strong focus for their goals and they strongly believe in what they can accomplish. By making a good plan and executing it thoroughly, you can build mental strength and focus in you.

Along with these qualities, a leader also has that charisma and ability to win people’s trust and respect. But it does not happen in one day. It takes a long time to develop leadership skills even though you may have the qualities. There are several areas in your personality that you need to work on in order to be a leader. 1. Goal Oriented
Leaders are very focused on the objectives that need to be achieved. They develop a plan and strategy to achieve the objectives. When developing leadership skills, start by looking at how goal oriented you are now. Improve upon that behavior.

2. Developing People

3. Prioritize

When developing leadership skills, ask yourself this – are you generous enough to share the accomplishments of your unit’s achievements?

Madonna’s Charity Head Denies Dispute over Land Take Over for School in Malawi

By now we all know about ‘Raising Malawi’, the charity co-founded by pop queen Madonna with an intention of spreading education among under privileged girl children in Malawi. Unfortunately, there has been quite a buzz regarding the land take over for the $15 million school project.

But the director of the foundation, Phillip Van den Bosche, blamed it on yellow journalism. In a recent press interview he denied of land dispute blasting the reports revealing the villagers’ concern of losing their lands. Rather he quoted the village head who expressed his gratitude for the project at a ceremonial event organized for the academy.

Raising Malawi is presently engaged in building an academy for local girls on a plot of 117 acres of land in the outskirt of Malawi capital, Lilongwe. The land take over for the project was a deal with 200 local farmers who would be paid a total of $115,000 as compensation for their land. According to Bosche, the people there now have “equivalent plots of agricultural land where they can continue their farming.”

We agree with Van den Bosche that Raising Malawi is truly a “beautiful” project unless any poor villager is deprived.
